display tasks in to do list in due date order.

I have multiple tasks created in office 365 on my Windows laptop. When I am in Outlook looking at Emails, I can only my To Do list on the right side of the screen. When I display Planned tasks, they do not display in due date order. How can this be fixed?

I did some further testing on my end, and I was able to reproduce the same behavior. In New Outlook, when using either the Planned or Tasks pane on the right while viewing emails, I couldn't find an option to automatically arrange tasks by due date.

At the moment, the available workaround is to open the full Tasks view, where tasks can be sorted by due date. Alternatively, in the right-side pane, you can manually rearrange tasks by dragging and dropping them.

If having the Planned or Tasks view in the right-side To Do pane automatically arranged by due date is important for your workflow, I recommend submitting feedback through Ideas · Community so the Microsoft product team can review this feature request.

FYI, for me the; (Alternatively, in the right-side pane, you can manually rearrange tasks by dragging and dropping them.) doesn't work. It won't let me drag them to another spot.

I also wanted to apologize for the confusion caused by my previous reply. When I mentioned manually dragging and dropping tasks, I was referring to the Tasks pane in the right-side To Do pane while viewing emails, not the Planned pane. During my testing, I wasn't able to drag and drop tasks in the right-side Planned pane either.

Hi Joe Neas

To better understand your scenario, could you please clarify a few details:

Which version of Outlook are you using (classic Outlook, new Outlook, or Outlook on the web)?
Could you share a screenshot of how your tasks are displayed in Planned (please remember to hide any personal information)?

Based on my testing:

In classic Outlook, there is no “Planned” view like in Microsoft To Do. Tasks are displayed in a list view, where you can sort by due date. You can do this by going to Tasks > View > Arrange By > Due Date (or by clicking the Due Date column). Depending on the selected view (for example, To-Do List, Simple List, or Detailed List), tasks may appear grouped or as a single list.
In both new Outlook and Outlook on the web, the Planned view groups tasks into time buckets such as Today, Tomorrow, and Later based on their due dates, rather than displaying them as a single continuous list. If you need to see all tasks in one list and sort them strictly by due date (earliest to latest), you can switch to the Tasks view and sort by due date.
