Dear Microsoft Support Team,

I hope you are doing well.

I am requesting your assistance in recovering access to my Outlook/Hotmail account, which is linked as the recovery email for another important account.

Unfortunately, I have forgotten the password for this Outlook account and am unable to access it. As a result, I am also unable to recover my Yahoo account because the recovery email is inaccessible.

I kindly request your help in recovering my Outlook account. I am willing to provide any information necessary to verify my ownership, including my full name, approximate account creation date, previously used passwords, frequently contacted email addresses, or any other details that may assist in the verification process.

Please let me know if there are any alternative verification methods available to help me regain access to my account.

Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to your response.

Email id- ******@hotmail.com

Kind regards,
Sanjay

Hey there! Nice to meet you!

Just to confirm, did you have two-factor authentication (2FA) active on the account?

Important: If you have an active 2FA, ACSR will inform you that your recovery request will be ignored. If you only receive a message that the recovery request is either successful or indicates insufficient information, this means that 2FA is disabled.

Also, may I know when was the last time you successfully signed in to your account?

Best regards,

Darhyl

    Thank you for the information.

Since you do not have 2FA and you do not have access to your linked verification method for a password reset just as you mentioned, the only way to recover the account is through the account recovery web form: https://account.live.com/acsr

Please go to account.microsoft.com > click "Forgot Password" > select "I don't have any of these" > then you will be redirected to the ACSR form.

You'll need to keep trying until you're verified by Microsoft, and you can do this up to 2 times every 24 hours.

If your recovery request is successful, you will be asked to wait 30 days in order to update your security info and recover your account.

During this time, you will not be able to sign in to sites or services with your account.

If your Microsoft account recovery request was not granted, please review this link for tips on improving your chances of a successful recovery: https://support.microsoft.com/office/dc56c3e3-dff0-4ed5-8edb-60290eea6b53

Please be advised that Microsoft Support will not be able to grant you access to your account.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Best regards,

    Darhyl

Use the Microsoft account recovery flow.

    1. Try the Sign-in Helper first if the account does not have two-step verification enabled and the verification email or phone options are not recognized.
    2. If the password is forgotten and the account cannot be verified with existing security info, submit the account recovery form.
    3. Complete the recovery form from a device and location previously used to sign in to that account, such as a home or office device commonly used for that account.
    4. Provide as much detail as possible. Helpful details can include:
      • old passwords that may have been used on the account
      • exact email subject lines
      • contacts frequently emailed from the account
      • older account details that may match what was entered when the account was first created
    5. A working email address is required for the recovery request. It can be any active email account that is accessible, and it will be used to send the recovery result.
    6. Microsoft reviews the answers and sends a response to the working email within 24 hours.
    7. If the request is not approved, the form can be retried up to two times per day.

    Important limits:

    • If two-step verification is turned on and none of the alternate verification methods are accessible, support agents cannot reset the password or change account details.
    • Support agents are not allowed to send password reset links or access and change account details.
    • If the message says "The Microsoft account you've entered does not exist", check the spelling carefully, including the email domain such as .com or country-specific domains like .co.uk.

If the username is no longer recognized after checking spelling and domain, use the official support contact path for the "username stopped working" scenario.
