Cannot sign-in to workplace accounts, unknown type of 365 account, Microsoft phone does not work

We (my boss and I) seem to have a Microsoft account for business; it ends with onmicrosoft.com in any event. We have no administrator and no IT department, but it keeps telling us to go there to fix our login issues if it recognizes the emails at all. None of our current emails get any notifications. Everything is updated. I seem to have this personal 365 overlayered from when I bought a new computer for this job, which is good because we would otherwise be incapable of contacting you. None of your customer support numbers work - they either fail or return a "not recognized" auto-response.

I am stuck because while I am the office manager and thus should be the admin on all software, I cannot access the account or get any other confirmation about it. This has been an annoyance for me because OneDrive won't work, but I can still send those files to Google no problem. However, it has now shut my boss out of office, which is a MAJOR issue.

Here is the error: 4usqa

Please get back to me immediately. And don't give me this, "We understand xxx can be frustrating." I assure you, if you did, this would not be so horrendously difficult.

Hi Financial Secretary,

The Office 365 login error TAG: 4usqa Code is a sign-in failure caused by a failed authentication flow between a Microsoft 365 client (most often Outlook during profile login or token refresh) and Microsoft Entra ID. When this flow breaks, Outlook cannot complete the sign-in handshake, so it cannot download or refresh mailbox data, keep syncing, update calendar/contacts, use the offline OST file reliably, or maintain mailbox indexing.

In many affected cases, the most common confirmed cause of this error is the Microsoft Information Protection API service principal being disabled inside Entra ID. This application participates in authorization and policy evaluation for protected content, so disabling it can break part of the authentication and access chain Office apps relies on.

Re-enabling the API restores the authentication and authorization path Office apps uses during sign-in and data syncing.

Normally, this type of issue can be resolved by your IT administrator. However, since you are currently locked out and unable to connect with a live support agent, a viable workaround is to sign up for a temporary trial subscription to create a new tenant. From there, you will be able to access the admin portal and submit a support ticket directly to Data Protection Team

To set up a new tenant, please follow these steps below:

Visit  Microsoft 365 Business Plans and Pricing | Microsoft 365. This would allow you to create a new tenant following the prompts provided. Once set up, you can access the admin console of the new tenant and submit a support ticket requesting to speak with the Data Protection team on behalf of your previous tenant.

Follow the guided setup process to create a new account for a new tenant.

Once your tenant is created, you should be able to access the support portal and submit your ticket referencing your locked account without further issues

In your ticket description, you'll need to clearly explain that you're trying to regain access to your previous Microsoft 365 tenant and need help from the Data Protection team. Here's a message you can use or adapt:

"Hello, I’m currently unable to access my previous Microsoft 365 tenant due to losing access, which prevents me from receiving verification codes. I’m the global admin, but I’m locked out.

I created this new tenant solely to request assistance. I kindly ask to be connected with the Data Protection team to verify my identity and help me recover access to the original tenant.

This is urgent, as I rely on Microsoft 365 for my work and have been unable to operate for several days. I’m available to provide any documentation or verification needed to support the recovery process."

Ticket Support: In the Microsoft 365 Admin Center > Support > Help & Support. You can raise support ticket at https://admin.microsoft.com/#/support/requests

Please remember to cancel the trial subscription after your issue is resolved, as this will help you avoid any accidental billing. You may prefer the following resource for detailed instructions: Cancel your Microsoft business subscription in the Microsoft 365 admin center | Microsoft Learn

I hope this helps you regain access to your account quickly. I'm glad to assist and truly hope the information provided has been useful. Please feel free to reach out anytime if you need further assistance.

Thank you for your kindness and contributions to the forum.
