My account has been hacked , if I close it how can I redirect emails that would come to it or copy my contact list . Also will other Microsoft files be retained eg excel, word, etc

You will need to regain access to the hacked account first. You cannot close the account, forward emails, or export contacts without signing in.
- Can you still sign in to the account?
- Did the hacker change the password, recovery email, or phone number?
Just to confirm:
- Try searching for the account using these steps from Microsoft: https://support.microsoft.com/account-billing/forgotten-your-microsoft-account-username-b2049472-3b8f-27d3-61c6-67a668453f4c
- Click on "Search" and follow the instructions provided.
If you receive any error messages, such as “account doesn’t exist” or anything else, please let me know.

2026-07-31T20:45:54.2933333+00:00 I can still sign in , yesterday I logged out other users , reported account activity from Nigerian, changed the password and deleted a rule redirecting inbox to a folder . it seemed ok this morning with normal emails coming into my inbox but doing a test with a friend sending an email in asking what the ‘favour’ was I wanted that I noticed the email come in and disappear and when I checked I noticed a new redirection rule had been set up which I’ve now deleted again. I ran a check via Microsoft in respond to saying my account has been hacked but they said my account integrity is ok but I don’t think it is … otherwise the email wouldn’t have vanished surely … that’s as far as I’ve got …
