    Hello, John Boiney.

Log in to your personal MS account on the page https://support.microsoft.com/en-US/home/contact?SourceApp=smc2&ContactUsExperienceEntryPointAssetId=www.microsoft.com

In the search bar, type (without quotes) "agent support" and press Enter or click on Get Help. Ignore the search results, and click on the "Contact Support" button at the bottom. On the next page, select "Surface" and "Surface Laptop" from the drop-down lists, and then click on "Confirm". Next, select the chat "Chat with a support agent in your web browser" and on the next page, enter (if requested) your email address and click on "Confirm". A chat window will open in a new tab. Wait for the support specialist to respond and describe your problem.

Yes. A live person can be reached through Get Help or Contact Support.

For a Surface laptop, use this path:

    1. Open Get Help from Windows Settings:
      • Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
      • Go to System.
      • Tab to Get help and press Enter.
    2. In the Get Help window, type a short request such as Contact Support and press Enter.
    3. If prompted, select Contact Support.
    4. Choose the product or service. If Surface is not listed, select Other Products.
    5. Select the support category and choose Confirm.
    6. Choose one of these live-support options:
      • Chat with a support agent in your web browser
      • Provide your phone number, and a support agent will call you

Useful “magic words” from the available guidance are:

    • Contact Support
    • Chat with an agent
    • Live Chat

    Important notes:

    • Contact options depend on hours of operation, product, scenario, and subscription.
    • For home users, the Get Help page can provide self-help or connect to chat or a callback.
    • Surface devices also have a dedicated help page with Get service and the Surface app for support and device information.
