A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
If the sign-in page does not recognize the mobile number and shows choose another verification method but then provides no alternatives, use these supported options:
- Use the Microsoft account sign-in helper to identify the account problem and get the next recovery steps: Sign-in helper.
- Avoid making repeated verification attempts. Microsoft can temporarily stop sending or accepting codes after unusual activity or too many requests.
- Check whether the number on the account is a mobile number and not a VOIP number. VOIP numbers cannot be used for sign-in or verification codes.
- If SMS is expected but not working, make sure the phone is not blocking texts from unknown numbers, the message inbox is not full, and the number entered is correct.
- If a verification email is being used instead, check the junk email folder. Valid verification codes come from @accountprotection.microsoft.com.
- If access to the account is regained through any method, review and update the sign-in methods in the account security settings.
- If verification codes still do not arrive, another method may need to be used, or it may be necessary to wait until access to the listed phone or email is available. Support agents cannot send verification codes or change account details.
- For technical support, use Contact Microsoft Support, enter the problem, select Get Help, and then Contact Support if needed.
If this is a work or school account instead of a personal Microsoft account, use the work or school password reset option or contact the IT admin.
