Sign in Error on Microsoft Authenticator app- no field to enter number displayed on laptop, just sign in error

Try these checks in order:

1. Open Microsoft Authenticator and make sure the app is unlocked. If the app is locked, the number entry prompt might not appear.
2. Check notifications for Microsoft Authenticator. On the phone, make sure notifications are enabled for the app and not set to silent. Also make sure the phone is not in Do Not Disturb or Quiet mode.
3. Check connectivity. Switch between Wi‑Fi and mobile data, and make sure Airplane mode is off. If a VPN is enabled, disconnect it and try again.
4. Update the app and device. Install the latest Microsoft Authenticator version. Versions older than 12 months are not supported. Also make sure the phone OS is up to date.
5. Verify date and time. Set the phone’s Date & time to automatic, then restart the device.
6. Open the app manually during sign-in. Even if no pop-up appears, the approval prompt can be waiting inside the Authenticator app.
7. If notifications work for some accounts but not this one, remove the affected account from Authenticator and add it again. This matches the error shown in the screenshot stating the account may need to be added again.
8. If the issue continues and this is a work or school account, contact the IT admin. The admin can require re-registration of multifactor authentication so the account can be set up again. This removes existing MFA methods, so new methods must be configured at the next sign-in.
9. If the message is specifically that the broker app did not complete login, complete the sign-in inside Microsoft Authenticator, Company Portal, or the primary Microsoft app on the device.
