A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
Good day State User, and I appreciate the clear explanation of your concern.
I completely understand and respect your diligence in keeping your work and personal accounts separate. However, it is possible that a personal account was inadvertently signed in or remains connected on the device. Please follow the steps below to ensure that nothing has been overlooked:
Step 1: Disable personal account search in File Explore
Open File Explorer > Select the three dots (...) menu > Search settings.
You may consider clearing your device's search history.
Under Search my accounts, disable Microsoft account option.
Note: If the files disappear after clearing File Explorer history but later reappear, that would suggest personal account or cloud service is continuing to provide recent file information to the device.
Step 2: Verify and remove any personal OneDrive account from the work laptop
If a personal OneDrive account is connected to the device, files from that account may appear in recent file lists.
Select the OneDrive cloud icon in the Windows notification area.
Select Settings > Open the Account tab.
Review the list of connected accounts.
If a personal OneDrive account is listed, select Unlink this PC.
Select Unlink account to confirm.
Note: Unlinking OneDrive doesn't delete files stored in your personal OneDrive. Your files remain available through OneDrive on the web.
Step 3: Remove any personal account from Windows
Even if OneDrive isn't actively syncing, a personal Microsoft account added to Windows can sometimes contribute to account based file suggestions and recent file experiences.
Open Settings > Go to Accounts.
Review the following sections:
- Your info.
- Email & accounts.
- Access work or school.
Look for any personal Microsoft account.
- If the account appears under Email & accounts, select it and choose Remove, if available.
- If it appears under Access work or school, select the account and choose Disconnect, if available.
Additionally, please verify that your personal account is signed in alongside your work account across all Office applications, including Microsoft Edge. If so, I recommend signing out of those applications as well.
For example: Word, Excel or PowerPoint.
Step 4: Clear Credential Manager
Credential Manager lets you view and delete saved credentials for websites, connected applications, and networks.
Please close all Office apps.
Select Start > Type Credential Manager > Open Credential Manager.
Look for entries related to the personal Microsoft account, OneDrive, Outlook, Office, Microsoft, or login.live.com under both Web and Windows Credentials.
Expand the relevant personal account entry.
Select Remove.
Restart the computer.
Note: Only remove entries that clearly belong to the personal account.
Step 5: Remote sign-out from the personal Microsoft account
If you want to make sure the personal Microsoft account is no longer signed in on the work laptop from the account side:
From your personal device, go to the Additional security options page.
Scroll to Sign out everywhere and select it.
Allow time for the sign-out to apply.
Note: Signing out everywhere will sign the account out of browsers, applications and trusted devices. Please allow up to 24 hours for the changes to take effect.
