I have a paid subscription and just purchased a laptop with a 1 year free subscription.

How do I extend my subscription to cover the free year?

Hi, @Barbara Tooma the free year may extend your current subscription if it is the same Microsoft 365 plan.

Redeem it using the same Microsoft account connected to your paid subscription. If it is the same plan, the additional time should be added to your current expiry date. Different plans may be converted and may not provide a full extra year.

What Microsoft 365 plan do you currently have: Personal or Family? What plan came with the laptop? Did you receive a product key, or does the laptop show an activation offer?

Hi @Barbara Tooma Yes, sign in to Word or Excel on the new laptop using the same Microsoft account that owns your Microsoft 365 Family subscription.

However, do not accept or activate anything until the exact included plan is shown. “1-Year Office 365 with Copilot AI” does not confirm whether it is Microsoft 365 Personal or Family.

After signing in, do you see a message such as “Claim your subscription,” “Included with this device,” or “Activate Office”? Please share the exact wording or a screenshot before continuing.
