For a visibly bulging Surface battery, stop using the device and handle it carefully. Do not put pressure on it or risk puncturing the battery cell. Microsoft recommends completing the Surface replacement request form to work with a Surface Support Advocate.
To request service for the Surface online:
- Sign in to Microsoft account | Devices.
- Select the Surface device, then select Next.
- If the device is not listed, select Register device.
- Follow the prompts to complete the service order.
To check the status of an existing repair or service order:
- Go to https://account.microsoft.com/devices.
- Review the repair status there.
- Status updates should also be sent to the email address used when the service order was created.
If direct help from a support person is still needed, use Microsoft support contact options:
- Go to https://support.microsoft.com/contactus
- In Windows, open Get Help.
- Type Chat with an agent.
- Select Contact support and follow the prompts.
- A callback option may also be available.
If in-person help is preferred, Microsoft also offers service centers in some countries and regions. Those centers can provide hardware inspection, troubleshooting, and in some locations repair or help sending the device to Microsoft. Authorized Service Providers may charge additional fees, including for some in-warranty repairs.
