Authenticator

If the Rockstar account was stored in Microsoft Authenticator and there was no backup, Microsoft cannot restore that code.

What can still be done:

1. Check whether a backup exists anyway.
   • On Android, open Authenticator and select Restore from backup or Begin recovery before signing in.
   • Sign in with the same personal Microsoft account that was used for backup.
   • On iOS, backup and restore only work through iCloud, and only on the same device type.
2. If no backup can be restored, add the account again.
   • When Authenticator credentials cannot be restored for any reason other than access to the backup account, the documented path is to add the accounts again.
   • For a third-party account like Rockstar, that means completing Rockstar’s account recovery or 2FA reset process so a new authenticator setup can be created.
3. If the app shows Action required or Sign in to restore your account, complete the extra verification.
   • In Authenticator, tap the affected account and sign in again.
   • Confirm the password, then verify by email address or phone number if prompted.

Important details:

• Third-party accounts such as Amazon, Facebook, or Gmail restore their one-time password codes only if they were included in a backup.
• If backup was never enabled, lost codes are not recoverable from Authenticator.
• If access to the backup account itself is the problem, Microsoft support agents cannot help restore those credentials.
