A file has been shared with me by a client. but all of a sudden when I try to open it I receive the following message:

Request Id: f63f1178-7c58-4578-a600-1743b6051400

Correlation Id: e68427a2-5012-2001-1404-d72d6db838e2

Timestamp: 2026-07-15T14:15:02Z

Message: AADSTS90072: User account '******@hotmail.com' from identity provider 'live.com' does not exist in tenant 'Dartford Borough Council' and cannot access the application '00000003-0000-0ff1-ce00-000000000000'(Office 365 SharePoint Online) in that tenant. The account needs to be added as an external user in the tenant first. Sign out and sign in again with a different Azure Active Directory user account

I had no problem accessing Sharepoint yesterday. What do I do?

    Hello

Looks like you are using personal account and they are using organization account.

This can get tricky. In order for you to access the file in such set up, your hotmail.com account needs to be added as a guest user properly in their business tenant. If not, you will be denied access.

Their organization IT needs to review your guest user status and fix it on their end.

Or, ask your client to share with you this way. Instead of adding your hotmail.com in the Invite field, have them right click on the file and choose share, use "copy link" option. Then share the URL in a separate email with you.
