Use the official Microsoft recovery flow only.

    1. Start with the Sign-in Helper. It is the primary path for hacked accounts and can either guide through self-help steps or offer the chance to talk to an agent.
    2. Before changing anything, run a full antivirus or malware scan on the PC. Microsoft recommends doing this before changing the password.
    3. If access is still possible, change the password immediately. If sign-in fails, use the password reset flow.
    4. If unusual sign-in alerts were received and access is still possible, go to Security basics and select Review activity. For activity that was not recognized, use This wasn't me or Secure your account.
    5. After regaining access, check account settings that attackers often change, including connected accounts, forwarding, and automatic replies.
    6. If the username is no longer recognized or the sign-in says “We couldn't find an account with that username”, try account recovery using the email address, phone number, or Skype name used to sign in. Also verify the correct email domain and spelling, and try any alternate alias or phone number previously on the account.
    7. If recovery is unsuccessful, the recovery form can be retried up to two times per day.
    8. If two-step verification was turned on and none of the alternate verification methods are accessible, support agents cannot send password reset links or change account details.

If the account remains inaccessible after these steps, use the Sign-in Helper again for the available support options.
