If the backup email is still available, use it as the recovery method during sign-in.

    1. Go to the sign-in flow and enter the account email.
    2. If prompted for verification, look for Show more verification methods or select I don’t have any of these.
    3. If the backup email is offered, choose it and complete verification there.
    4. If the old phone number is shown and no longer works, select I don't have any of these and follow the prompts to add new security info.

    Important:

    • Do not change all security info at the same time, or the account may be restricted for 30 days.
    • If prompted with make sure you can receive a security code, the account can be skipped for 24 hours at a time, but after 7 days new or verified security info is required before sign-in continues.

If no working verification option appears:

    1. Use the Sign-in Helper tool.
    2. If the account password or username is no longer accepted, use Recover your account and complete the recovery steps.
    3. If two-step verification is turned on and there is no access to any alternate verification method, support agents cannot send password reset links or change account details.

If the issue is specifically with restoring Microsoft Authenticator:

    • If access to the backup account for Authenticator restore is unavailable, support agents cannot help with restoring those Authenticator account credentials.
    • The accounts can be added again after access is recovered.
