I have Win 11 Home (Retail) and tried to upgrade to Pro using the windows store, and I keep getting error code 0xc004f050

I have a USB edition of Win 11 Home (Retail, not OEM) and now need to upgrade to Pro. I purchased the upgrade in the Windows Store and it seems to work and then fails with the error code 0xc004f050.

From googling this seems to be a common license incompatibility issue, and people recommend disconnecting, installing 11 using a generic license, and then entering your proper license when done. All great, but (a) doesn't work here (get the same error when I put the generic license key) and (b) if it did work, I still don't have a key for 11 Pro, as I bought the upgrade in the store and it doesn't show me one anywhere.

When I check the store it just shows me a completed payment, successful delivery and won't even give me the option for a refund, so I am now £120 worse off, and still don't have Pro.

Thank you, no worries.

I believe you are encountering a Windows issue. Let us reinstall Windows, keeping everything so that our Windows health is intact.

"Please try a repair install as the next step. It keeps everything, including apps and files, and reinstalls Windows.

Repair Install Windows 11 using an ISO file

https://www.yourwindowsguide.com/2021/08/repair-install-windows-11-using-an-iso-file.html

  1. Download Windows 11 ISO file from the following link:

https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/Windows11

  1. Under Download ISO file, select Windows 11.
  2. Click Download and choose the Language in which Windows is installed.
  3. Click 64-bit Download to start the download.
  4. When downloaded, open the ISO file, and run Setup.exe to start the upgrade."

Once it is done, we can try to upgrade again.

I look forward to hearing from you to get the results of the troubleshooting.

    Hi,

I understand the frustration caused by this issue. Surely you deserve the product if you purchased it.

I'm going to run through a few steps with you. Some of these are diagnostic — they help me narrow down what's wrong, not fix it outright. So if nothing changes after a step, that's normal and expected, not a dead end. I'll keep going until we've got this resolved.

May I know what the activation troubleshooter says? Does it say "Pro" does not have a license, or "Home"?

I look forward to hearing from you to get the results of the troubleshooting.
