I am trying to purchase a VISIO subscription. I have Microsoft 365 Family and a Microsoft account. But the VISIO page wants me to create a new account.

    Hi Gems,

    Thank you for reaching out.

The reason the Visio page is asking you to create a new account is that you are looking at Visio Plan 1 or Visio Plan 2. These are subscription products built for organizations, and they can only be activated with a Microsoft 365 work or school account (a Microsoft Entra ID), not a personal Microsoft account such as the one tied to your Microsoft 365 Family subscription.

Because your personal Microsoft account does not have a work or school identity attached to it, the purchase flow cannot assign the subscription to it. To complete the purchase, the page automatically prompts you to create a new account, which becomes the first work or school account for a new organization. It is not rejecting your existing Microsoft account; it is setting up the business identity that this type of subscription requires in order to be assigned and managed. This is why it feels like a separate sign-up, since the personal account and the new work or school account are two different identity systems.

If you would prefer to keep using your existing personal Microsoft account, the alternative is a one-time purchase of Visio Standard 2024 or Visio Professional 2024. These are perpetual desktop editions that do not require a work or school account.

For full details on the one-time purchase options, you can review the plans and pricing at Microsoft 365 Visio: Compare One-Time Purchase Plans and Pricing
