A family of Microsoft products that enable users to capture, organize, and reuse notes electronically.
Hi JoshTL
Thank you for reaching out.
Based on your description, the issue is likely related to where the OneNote notebooks are stored, rather than which account is currently signed in to the OneNote app.
If the notebooks were originally created while you were using your Microsoft 365 Family subscription, they are likely stored in the personal OneDrive associated with that Microsoft account. Signing in with a Microsoft 365 business account does not automatically transfer those notebooks to your business OneDrive. While OneNote can work with multiple accounts, the account you use must have permission to access the location where the notebooks are stored.
Please try the following:
- Sign in to OneNote on the web using the personal Microsoft account that originally owned the notebooks, and check whether you can open them there.
- Verify whether your personal OneDrive has exceeded its storage limit after the Microsoft 365 Family subscription expired. If the account is over its storage quota, files may become read-only and you may be unable to edit or sync changes until storage is reduced or additional storage is added.
- If you can access the notebooks from the personal account, consider moving or copying the content to a new notebook stored in your business OneDrive or SharePoint account.
- In OneNote for Windows, sign out of all accounts and sign back in with the account that has access to the notebook. If necessary, open the notebook in OneNote for the web and select Open in OneNote.
- Also confirm that your Microsoft 365 business subscription includes the OneNote desktop app. For example, OneNote is not included with Microsoft 365 Business Basic, while plans such as Business Standard, Business Premium, Apps for business, and Apps for enterprise do include it.
In summary, your business subscription does not automatically replace the storage and access permissions associated with notebooks created under your previous Microsoft 365 Family account. You may need to restore access through the original personal OneDrive account first, and then migrate the notebooks to your business account if desired.
I hope this information helps. If you have any questions or can share the results of the steps above, please feel free to let me know.
Thank you, and have a great day.
