Combining a free subscription to Microsoft365 with an existing paid subscription?

I got a new computer that came with a free subscription to Microsoft365. I already have a Microsoft365 subscription that is paid up until February 2027. How do I get the benefits of both the free subscription and the paid subscription?

If they are the same Microsoft 365 plan, redeeming another subscription usually extends the expiration date instead.

The ConversionBlockedSyndicated error usually means one subscription is managed by the computer manufacturer or another provider, so it cannot be converted while the existing subscription is active.

Please check and confirm:

What are the exact names of both subscriptions?
Was the existing subscription purchased directly from Microsoft, Apple, Google, or another retailer?
Did the new computer include a product key or only an activation link?

To answer question #1: The free subscription name is Microsoft 365 Personal subscription and the name of the paid subscription is Microsoft 365 Personal.

To answer question #2: The paid subscription was purchased from Best Buy.

To answer question #3: The free subscription does include a product key.

I’m assuming that I need to let the paid subscription expire and then start the free subscription (using the new product key) after the paid subscription has expired. Is that correct?

Yes. Since your current Microsoft 365 Personal subscription is managed through Best Buy, the free Personal subscription may not be added while the Best Buy subscription is still active. That is likely why you are receiving the ConversionBlockedSyndicated error.

Turn off recurring billing through Best Buy, but do not cancel or remove the subscription early. Continue using it until it fully expires in February 2027. You can then redeem the new product key at Microsoft365.com/setup using the same Microsoft account.

Before waiting, please check the paperwork or terms included with the new computer. Does the free offer have a redemption deadline? If it must be activated before February 2027, you may need to redeem it using a different Microsoft account instead.

Microsoft confirms that a free offer can be saved until the current subscription expires, but any offer-specific deadline would still apply.
