Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Hello Tom Jack,
Thank you for your post.
From your description, it sounds like the domain you are attempting to use may already be associated with an existing Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Entra tenant. In some cases, this can happen if the domain was previously configured in another Microsoft 365 environment and was not fully removed before being reused elsewhere.
To help us better understand the situation, could you please confirm whether you recognize or have access to any previous Microsoft 365 tenant that may have used this domain? For example, if the domain was connected to a Microsoft 365 subscription in the past, it may still be registered there.
If you are the verified owner of the domain and can provide proof of ownership through your domain registrar or DNS records, Microsoft Support can assist further. However, because this involves domain ownership verification and tenant-related data, the matter generally needs to be reviewed directly by Microsoft Support rather than through the Community forum.
In these situations, Microsoft Support will typically need to validate ownership of the domain before determining whether the domain can be released from the existing tenant association. Once ownership has been verified, they can advise on the available options and next steps.
You can create a support request through Admin Center by following the guidance in the article below: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn
As an alternative, you may also contact Microsoft Support by phone and have the support representative create or route the case for you: Contact Microsoft customer support | Microsoft Support
When calling the support number, you may hear a recorded introduction for approximately 30 seconds mentioning online support resources. You can simply wait for the menu options to begin. From there, select "1" for a business email user, and then select "1" again for technical support
When contacting Support, it may be helpful to include:
- The domain name involved.
- A description of the error indicating that the domain is already in use.
- Confirmation that you are the domain owner.
- Any information about previous Microsoft 365 tenants that may have been associated with the domain.
Once Microsoft Support reviews the case and verifies ownership, they will be in the best position to determine whether the domain can be released and made available for use with your current setup.
Kind regards,
