Notepad will only print in landscape mode.

The thing is, I'm not running Win 11 Home. This is for Win 11 Pro. And what I found was that I needed to perform a registry edit to switch to the "legacy" print dialog to fix the problem. I had tried everything suggested so far in this thread, and none of that works for Win 11 Pro. But I found a discussion elsewhere that acknowledged that there isn't any way to fix this directly in 11 Pro. No matter what settings you apply to the printer driver or the settings in the print dialog, the system switches back to "landscape" always. And this answer also listed the steps to change that registry entry so that the OS no longer uses the new print dialog, but uses the legacy print dialog. And indeed, doing that did cure the issue for me.

This wasn't just a matter of not selecting "portrait mode", it was that no matter how you set the printer's dialog and the OS print dialog, it simply will not obey the settings. Very frustrating. But interestingly, it only does that with this new version of Notepad. All of my other text or word programs printed fine before the change in the registry.

It does sound like this is a bug specific to the new Notepad, especially since your other applications print correctly. The registry change to use the legacy print dialog appears to be an effective workaround until Microsoft addresses the issue in a future update.

OK. Even though I am supposed to be able to edit my post, it gets a 404 error when I try, so I'm going to waste everyone's time a little more with this post:

I asked the AI associated with my browser about this, and it came up with:

"On Windows 11, this can happen even when your printer is set to Portrait, and it’s often caused by the printer preferences or the Windows “modern” print dialog not honoring the orientation. First, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, select your printer, go to Printing preferences, and set Orientation = Portrait; if it still doesn’t work, remove the printer and re-add it."

So I did that, and it appears to have worked for these two old programs. Perhaps that would have worked for Notepad, too?

In any case, for the moment, this seems to have done the trick very simply.
