On a Dell Windows 11 PC, I had to save off Documents and Photos to a Western Digital external hard drive. The Western Digital software does not allow restoration of data contained since it was not their software that backup it up. They state Windows support should know how to restore the data.
Thank you for that information, that is not a Windows Function, that is the Dell Backup function.
On the external drive, is there a SupportAssist_Backups folder?
If so, open that folder and open File_Restore.exe.
Select the archive.zip to begin the file restore operation.
The method to restore your files will depend on the method you used to backup your files.

Did you use some Dell built-in method to backup the files, or did you open the old Control Panel and select 'Backup and Restore (Windows 7) or did you use some other method?

Please provide a screenshot of the backup folder/file on the external WD drive.
I used the option provided after you hit F12 at the moment the DELL symbol appeared. It came up with the options to backup DOCUMENTS, PHOTOS, and a few other option which I did not choose. It backed up the entire contents of DOCUMENTS and PHOTOS to my knowledge, but the contents are not recognizable when I open the external drive's contents. They have archive. files under the folders that are named the date of backup.
