You don't have the required permissions to access this org

Hi all,

New users are having issues access teams via both Web, Desktop Teams App, and Mobile client. It doesn't affect exiting users.

Licenses has been allocated, and have tried de-activate and re-activate. I've combed the forum and followed the various areas to check, including Conditional Access (we have no policies enabled for now).

User can log into Office apps fine, and user sign-in logs shows no failures. The authentication part are all fine, it's seems to be transition to teams that's blocking the final access.

I've attached the screen capture.
User's image Yes, a ticket is raised with support, but they're going through the usual standard process and hopefully managed to escalate to an internal team that could help identify the issue. Given I've worked with MS Support for over a decade, this is a hit or miss.

Thanks

Hi JoVuon,

Sorry you’re going through this issue. I appreciate you sharing the details and the screenshot.

As a forum moderator, I genuinely wish I could directly access your account or review the backend systems to diagnose and resolve this issue for you. However, our role here is limited to providing general guidance by offering clear next steps, sharing applicable resources, and directing you to the appropriate support channels so you can work with the right team to investigate further.

Since a support ticket has already been raised with Microsoft, hopefully their internal team can review the backend logs and help identify what is preventing the newly created users from accessing Teams.

In the meantime, while Microsoft continues to investigate, could you please try the following checks?

1/ Test with a different network

  • Please ask one of the affected users to access Teams using a mobile hotspot instead of the corporate network.
  • This can help confirm whether the issue is related to the company network, firewall, proxy, DNS, or any traffic inspection configuration.

2/ Check Microsoft Teams org-wide settings

  • Go to Microsoft 365 Admin Center > Settings > Org settings > Microsoft Teams
  • Then make sure the following options are enabled:
    • Turn on Microsoft Teams for all users
    • Allow guest access in Teams
  • User's image
  • Save changes

After confirming or updating these settings, please allow some time for the change to take effect, then have the affected users try accessing Teams again.

If the issue persists after these checks, I would recommend continuing to work with Microsoft Support so they can further investigate from the backend side. Since authentication appears to be successful, they should be able to review internal Teams service logs and confirm whether the affected new users are being properly provisioned for Teams access.

I hope this issue gets resolved soon. Should you have any other questions, please feel free to share them in the comment below. I'm very happy to help.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding.

Hi Team, one user is unable to access the organization in Microsoft Teams and gets:

“You don't have the required permissions to access this org.”

Outlook, OneDrive, Calendar and other M365 apps work normally. Teams license (TEAMS1/MCOSTANDARD), TeamsOnly, SIP, provisioning, CA/MFA and Entra sign-in logs have all been verified successfully.

The user can access other cross tenant organizations in Teams, but not our organization.

Has anyone faced this issue or knows how to check the Teams backend organization entitlement/membership for the affected user?

    Hi Chris Duong,

It's much appreciate with your swift response. I resolved the issue before seeing your suggestion. BTW: I don't see an "Accept Answer" button anywhere.

The solution dialog/text box has been updated (but having issues uploading an image at the moment). It has 2 boxes for licensing: "Other" and "Business & Enterprise". The "Business & Enterprise" box is on by default. I'm in Europe, and Teams has been separated from the M365 suite. The separate Teams license is call "Microsoft Teams Enterprise".

I've came across this suggestion previously and tested it, but made no difference. It's probably due to the fact I tested the change too soon without giving the Azure/M365 backend to sync the changes. And the "Business & Enterprise" box was enabled, I figured I'm covered/safe.

What go me stuck was due to a number of factors, and changes made between the time a new account worked, to when it didn't. Yes, a new account was working without the above change, ie enabling "Other" team license.

Between the period when a new account was working to when it stopped, I've made the following changes:

    1. The UPN changed from "newUser@mycompany.ai" to "newUser@mycompany.com". This led me to think it's a conflict with the change in UPN, thus went chasing that rabbit hole for a while.
    2. I've enabled Information Protection, which included some minor Team group changes, thus reverted that for troubleshooting as part of the process of elimination - even thought this was unlikely.

The error message didn't help. When the user was unassigned with the Teams license for troubleshooting, it showed a different message, indicating a Teams license was required. The one attached indicated something else, thus misleading and completely useless.

I suspect Microsoft made a backend license classification change during the period when I had Teams working to when it stopped, therefore the separate Teams license fell outside of the "Business & Enterprise" bucket, ie failed verification at the last stage, but didn't prompt an error stating a license was required.

What made this entire saga worse was due to the fact existing M365 accounts were unaffected, and checking the Sign-in log, it triggered a number of intermediate steps vs the new accounts.

A series of unfortunate timing, thanks to MS.

    Anyway, thanks again.
