    Hi,

First one, try restarting your Mac to see if that restores the ability to select or highlight text in Word.

If the issue continues, make sure both macOS and Microsoft Office/Word are fully updated. Text selection is partly handled by the operating system, so an outdated macOS or Word version may cause unexpected behavior.

You can also try these alternate ways to select text in Word:

    • Select a passage: Click at the beginning of the text, scroll if needed, then hold Shift and click at the end of the passage.
    • Select a word: Double-click the word.
    • Select a sentence: Hold Command and click anywhere in the sentence.
    • Select a paragraph: Triple-click anywhere inside the paragraph.
    • Extend a selection: After selecting text, hold Shift and click somewhere else to expand the selection. For example, Command-click a sentence, then Shift-click another sentence to select everything in between.

You can also use the left margin as a selection area:

    • Select one line: Click in the left margin next to the line.
    • Select a paragraph: Double-click in the left margin next to the paragraph.
    • Select all text: Triple-click or Command-click in the left margin.
    • Select multiple lines: Click and drag up or down in the left margin to select text line by line.

I hope this information is useful. Additionally, as other users have raised similar concerns and may not be aware of where to share their feedback, I hope this response helps clarify the situation and suggests a potential next step. Highlighting this information can make it more visible to others in the community who may be facing the same issue, making it easier for them to find guidance and contribute their feedback as well.

Thank you again for your time and for raising this important usability concern. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

I look forward to your thoughts on this.
