My Microsoft Account Was Hacked and the Sign-in Email Was Changed

Dear Microsoft Support,

I am requesting urgent assistance in recovering my Microsoft account.

On 7/7/2026, I became a victim of a phishing attack through Discord. I was tricked into entering my Microsoft account email address, password, and a verification code on a fake Microsoft sign-in page.

Shortly afterward, I lost access to my account. When I now try to sign in using my original email address ([Removed PII]@gmail.com), Microsoft says that no account exists with that email address. I believe the attacker changed the sign-in alias and my account's security information.

I can provide the following information to help verify that I am the legitimate owner:
My original Microsoft account email: [Removed PII]@gmail.com

I still have access to the computer where Microsoft Excel is signed in with this account.

Excel still displays my Microsoft account and OneDrive associated with this email address.

This Microsoft account owns a paid Minecraft license.

I can provide pictures of the hacker saying he can sell me back the account for 10 USD.

I can provide clips of me using that Minecraft account,

I would greatly appreciate your help in recovering my account as soon as possible.

I’m sorry this happened. Based on what you described, the account may have been compromised and the attacker may have changed the sign-in alias or security information.

Unfortunately, nobody in the Microsoft Community can manually restore the account, change the alias back, or verify ownership for you. Microsoft states that support agents are not allowed to send password reset links or directly access/change account details for account-protection reasons.

You should do the following:

Do not pay the hacker. Paying does not guarantee you will get the account back.

Use the Microsoft sign-in helper / hacked account recovery process. Microsoft’s official guidance for hacked Microsoft accounts is to use the account recovery and sign-in helper flow, especially when you cannot sign in.

Complete the Microsoft account recovery form. Use a working email address that you can access, and provide as much information as possible, such as previous passwords, account creation details, Xbox/Minecraft purchase details, billing information, devices used, and any Microsoft services connected to the account. Microsoft specifically recommends gathering this information before submitting the recovery form.

Use the same device and location you normally used. Since you still have access to the computer where Excel is signed in, try the recovery process from that computer and from your usual network. This can help Microsoft validate that the request is legitimate.

Check whether there is a pending security-info change. If Microsoft shows a message that security info changes are pending, you may be able to cancel or report the change through the security page flow.

Secure your device and other accounts immediately. Run a full malware scan, change the password of your Gmail account, Discord account, and any other account where you reused the same password. Microsoft recommends scanning for malware before changing the Microsoft account password.
