How do I contact a real human?

So on the 17th of June, I was hit with a $30 subscription to ibis paint, so of course, I went to my email to check it out as I didn't remember signing up for it. Since I assume I signed up for it at some point a while ago, and it only now went through, I had read through the email to see if there was any possible way for me to get a refund. The email directly says,

"You will receive a refund of your most recent recurring billing charge if you cancel your subscription and request a refund within 30 days after being charged. This refund right is limited to one time, per Microsoft Account per subscription product."

Clearly, I am eligible for a refund. I went and cancelled the subscription. I have yet to recieve a refund. No, I can't contact ibis for this, as all payments went through microsoft, so it's their job to deal with this. There is no button to request a refund, and it says that I can only cancel until the next billing period, which is in a year. I just wish to contact a real human about this for my refund as it states that I can get one. This is my only time having this subscription too, so it's not as if i've already cancelled a subscription for ibis before this one.

Hi, Bishop

Since the charge went through Microsoft, that clause you quoted does apply to you, but here's the catch: Microsoft doesn't actually have a standalone "request a refund" button. Eligibility is decided automatically during the cancel flow, and since you already cancelled and nothing appeared, you now need to get a real person on the billing side to apply it manually.

Here are some suggestions you can try:

First, sign back in at account.microsoft.com/services and confirm the subscription shows as cancelled/expiring. Sometimes re-running the cancel steps re-triggers the refund offer that got skipped.

If nothing shows, here's the route you can follow to reach out to Microsoft Support for further assistance:

  • Visit this website: Contact - Microsoft Support
  • Type Contact in the search box.
  • Now click Get help, and Select Contact Support or Sign in to contact support below.
  • Go to the Products and services tab, and choose either Microsoft 365 and Office category.
  • On the Category tab, choose Manage account subscription.
  • Go to Confirm.
  • You can now choose the option of Chat with a support agent on your web browser.

Important Note: The Chat support team only works at certain work times, (Monday to Friday: 9am to 6pm. Saturday and Sunday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) so if the last window says you are not available, try to open it again the next day. If you prefer phone support, you can leave a phone number. That way, they can call you and help you.

Have your order number, the charge date, and that exact refund wording ready, it speeds things up and gives them no wiggle room. Refunds usually land back on your original payment method within about 5 business days once approved.

If you get stuck going in circles, disputing the charge with your bank is a fair last resort, but try Microsoft billing first.
