Need to update phone number. deleted old one and cannot add new one. cannot use two step sign in without a number

I have had a new phone number. I went into MSN to change the phone number, and the only choice was to delete the old number. The system will not allow me to enter a new number under any circumstances, and this makes it so I cannot get a confirm code, because it keeps sending the code to the old number. I cannot access customer support either.

Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to add a phone number as a verification method, as Microsoft has stated that they have already phased this option out, particularly under "Note" https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/manage/microsoft-account-security-info-verification-codes

However, you can add three or more security methods to your account to provide additional verification options, such as a recovery email address, a passkey, and Microsoft Authenticator on account.microsoft.com > Security > Manage how I Sign in > Then click on "Add another way to sign in to your account"

If you didn’t setup alternative authentication methods, you will need to use the account recovery page.

Note: there is no contact phone number, only the recovery form. While you will get validation of recovery in 24 hours, there is a 30 day delay before actual recovery. This allows warning messages to be set to the email and chances to cancel request if fraudulent.
