Why the onedrive showing you dont have permission to view this file.

Hello Team

I own a Microsoft account. I have some important file in the onedrive logged in with that account.

But when i tried to open those file for editing, i received a page saying "You don't have permission to view this file."

And this happened when i was editing my documents. The prompt said please wait a few minutes and try to login

Please help me

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

This error usually means OneDrive cannot confirm the account permission at that moment, or the file is being opened from a different account/session.

To help narrow down the issue:

Are these files stored in your personal OneDrive, or were they shared with you by someone else?
Does the same error happen when opening the file from https://onedrive.live.com?
Are you using the same Microsoft account in OneDrive, Office, and the browser?

Thank you so much for reaching out.

The problem is fixed 6 minutes ago. I think it was a server issues of onedrive, but not sure. But can tell that the problem is fixed and now i have all access to my files.

And yes, the files are stored on my OneDrive personal, same errors were happening while i tried to open them from https://onedrive.live.com. And i was using the same account in everywhere

Yes, it may have been a temporary OneDrive service, permission, or sync issue. Since everything is working now, I would suggest leaving the files as they are and avoid moving or renaming them for a while, just to let OneDrive finish syncing properly.

You may also check OneDrive web and make sure the files open normally there too.
