I received an email from Google pay that there has been a charge to my US bank credit card visa [PII removed] by Microsoft in the amount of $5105.98

I had no purchase, online or other from Microsoft and have no idea what is this charge for or how it happened.

Please clarify

Hi, Kvon Arya

I understand why that would be alarming, especially for an amount as high as $5,105.98. First, do not use any links inside the Google Pay email unless you are certain it is genuine. Open your bank or Google Pay app directly and confirm whether the charge is actually posted or only pending.

If the charge is listed as Microsoft, sign in directly to your Microsoft account and check Payment & billing > Order history. Microsoft also has an official Investigate option under the Manage your payments page for unknown card charges. Unknown charges can come from recurring subscriptions, a family member using the card, a previously declined charge being retried, a pre-order or split shipment, or an in-app purchase.

Since you do not recognize the purchase at all, you should also contact your bank or card issuer immediately and report the card as possibly compromised. If someone may have acquired your payment information, you should contact your bank or payment provider to prevent further charges, because disputing only the single charge may not stop future fraudulent charges.

You can also contact Microsoft Support, enter “unknown charge” or “billing charge,” select Get Help, then choose Contact Support if available.
