Microsoft Word 365 - seeing "upload failed" message. Instructs me to "save a copy". Been using this program for years. Never saw this message before. I have always just retrieved a file from a folder, edited, and then saved.

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

That “Upload failed” message usually means Word is trying to save/sync the document through OneDrive, but the upload did not complete. It may be a OneDrive sign-in, sync, permission, or file conflict issue.

    • First, please save a copy of the document to your PC so you do not lose the changes.
    • Then check the OneDrive cloud icon near the clock. Click it and see if it shows any sync error, paused sync, account sign-in issue, or storage warning.
    • Also open Word > File > Account and make sure you are signed in with the same Microsoft account used for OneDrive.

A few questions to narrow this down:

    1. Is the file saved inside your OneDrive folder, Desktop, Documents, or a normal local folder?
    2. Does this happen with only one Word file, or all Word files?
    3. Do you see any error if you open OneDrive from the taskbar cloud icon?
