I returned to the store where I purchased the laptop, in this case Costco.

It turned out when I purchased the laptop, I was given the Product Key card, and it never got scanned in by the appropriate salesperson at Costco. This was the reason I kept getting the Error Code: TokenStateInactive every time I tried using the Microsoft365.com/setup method.

I wasted hours and hours with chat services and I tried everything they told me to do. After staying away 48 hours to give the laptop time to accept the process, I still received an error code, I knew this was obviously beyond my skillset and opted to return the laptop. I am grateful someone at the Costco store was able to troubleshoot this and scanned the product key card and I'm in business now.

Thank you for your comment and trying to assist me. Very much appreciated.

Ruben

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

To help narrow down the issue:

    1. Did you buy Microsoft 365 directly from Microsoft, or did it come with the laptop or a product key card?
    2. Does Microsoft 365 show as active under https://account.microsoft.com/services?

TokenStateInactive usually points to an Office activation or redeem token issue. Since this is a new laptop, the first thing to check is whether Office is being activated with the same Microsoft account that owns the Microsoft 365 subscription.

    Please try this:

    • Sign in here using the account you used to buy or redeem Microsoft 365: https://account.microsoft.com/services
    • Check if Microsoft 365 shows as active there.
    • If it is active, open Word, Excel, or PowerPoint. Go to File > Account. Sign out of any wrong account, then sign in again with the account that has the subscription.

If the laptop came with a preinstalled Office trial, it may also be causing confusion. In that case, uninstall all Microsoft 365/Office from Settings > Apps. Restart the laptop, then reinstall Office from your Microsoft account services page https://account.microsoft.com/services (If you need full steps to perform this please let me know. Thanks)
