There is static in the background and in the speakers I use. The Dell Micro has static from the box and when I hook a speaker up to it

    Hi Derek Jacobs,

I understand how frustrating it can be when you hear constant static through both the built-in audio and external speakers.

To help narrow this down, could you let us know:

    • Which version of Windows are you running?
    • Is the static present immediately after startup, even before opening any applications?
    • Does the static occur when headphones are connected to the audio jack as well?
    • What is the exact Dell Micro model?

Since you mentioned the static is present from the Dell Micro itself and also when external speakers are connected, please try these quick checks:

    1. Right-click the speaker icon in the notification area and select "Sound Settings" (or "Playback Devices" on older versions of Windows). Select your playback device, then temporarily disable any "Audio Enhancements" or "Enhancements" options and test again.
    2. If you are using Windows 10, 8, or 7, open "Device Manager" > "Sound, video and game controllers", right-click your audio device, and select "Update driver". If the issue started recently, you can also try "Properties" > "Driver" > "Roll Back Driver" (if available).

If you're running Windows 7 or Windows 8 or an older version, please note that these products are End of Service. This product has been EOS, but you can still try some workarounds.

Note: Please follow the steps in our documentation to enable e-mail notifications if you want to receive the related email notification for this thread.
