I have a corrupted orphaned folder in my OneDrive root that instantly resurrects after deletion, even when the sync client is unlinked and I am signed out. I need a backend “orphaned item purge” or “root metadata repair” to remove the stuck folder. The folder name is xyz

Thank you for the the idea, but I am sorry to report that it did not work in my case.

I did figure out how to solve this problem. I call it the Relocation Purge Method. It works like this:

• Create a new folder online (GG)

• Move the ghost items into GG

• Inside GG, create a subfolder (BB)

• Move any remaining ghost items into BB

• Hydrate GG locally

• Drag GG to Desktop (because Desktop is backed up, this moves GG within OneDrive)

• Delete GG from Desktop

• Empty the Recycle Bin

       Restart OneDrive

    Based on your description, this sounds less like a normal OneDrive sync-client problem and more like a cloud-side item state issue, especially if the folder xyz reappears even after OneDrive is unlinked and you are signed out locally.

    Since you already tried unlinking/signing out and the folder resurrects, I suggest trying this method:

    1. Go to OneDrive on the web directly in a browser.
    2. Locate the folder xyz in the OneDrive root.
    3. Try deleting it from the web interface, not File Explorer.
    4. Open the Recycle bin in OneDrive and remove it from there as well if it appears.
    5. Refresh or sign out/in again and confirm whether xyz returns.
