A relative is being impersonated by someone using an outlook.com account

My aunt, email account ******@comcast.net, is being impersonated by a hacker using the account ******@outlook.com. The hacker is impersonating my aunt and requesting money from people on her contact list.

I need to report the outlook.com account and get it shut down. How can i do this.

(My aunt is not reporting this directly because she’s 93 years old and not a techie. I’m trying to help her.)

Please go to https://msrc.microsoft.com/report/, scroll down, and use the Outlook spam option to report the account and messages to Microsoft.

I would also strongly recommend reporting this to local law enforcement and obtaining a police report. This is not merely an unwanted email. Someone is impersonating your aunt and attempting to exploit the trust of her friends and family for financial gain.

A police report creates an official record of the incident. This can be important if someone sends money, shares personal information, or suffers financial loss. It may also help banks, payment services, email providers, or other authorities investigate related accounts and transactions. Even if the police cannot immediately identify the person responsible, documenting the incident may help connect it with other reports involving the same scammer.

Your aunt should also notify her contacts through a different, trusted method, such as a phone call or text message, and warn them not to respond, send money, purchase gift cards, click links, or provide personal information.
