How to contact Microsoft support directly for a billing issue on a deleted account

I signed up for a Microsoft Office Home Edition trial, which I believed I had cancelled before deleting the associated account. However, I am still being charged for the subscription.

The problem is twofold:

  1. The account being charged no longer exists, so the "investigate a billing issue" link does not help, as it finds no associated charges against my current account.
  2. All "Contact Us" links redirect to this forum rather than connecting me to Microsoft support directly.

How can I reach Microsoft's support team directly to resolve a billing charge tied to a deleted account?

Hey there! Nice to meet you!

Please be advised that unless the account owner is able to access the account, subscription cancellation is not possible, and Microsoft personnel cannot retrieve this information.

Since you are no longer able to recover your account, you will need to reach out directly to your bank and request to freeze all charges from Microsoft, cancelling the subscription on its renewal in the process.

You may also need to request a new payment method.

Thank you for your understanding.

Best regards,

Darhyl

To resolve a billing charge on a deleted Microsoft 365/Office account, direct contact with Microsoft Support is required. The community forums cannot access billing or account data.

Use one of these supported paths to reach Microsoft support for home subscriptions and billing:

    1. Go through the main Microsoft Support entry point
      1. Open the Contact Support page: Contact us.
      2. When prompted, describe the issue (for example, “billing charge on deleted account”).
      3. Select Get Help, then when self-help options appear, choose Contact support.
      4. Select the appropriate product category (for example, Microsoft 365/Office for home) and then the billing-related category.
      5. Choose a contact option such as Chat with a support agent in your web browser or a callback/phone option if offered.
    2. Use the general “Get Help” entry point for home users
      1. Go to the Get Help experience for home users: Get Help.
      2. Describe the billing problem and follow the prompts until an option to connect to support (chat or call) is offered.
    3. If using Outlook.com / Microsoft account help flows If the charge is tied to an Outlook.com/Microsoft account that was deleted, use the account/billing help flows and then escalate to support:
      1. Start from Account & Billing Help: Account & Billing Help.
      2. Follow the prompts for subscription/billing issues.
      3. When self-help does not resolve the issue, scroll to the bottom and use the Contact Support option where available.
    4. If web flows keep looping back to community pages If the web flows repeatedly redirect to community forums instead of support options, use the generic contact path and explicitly select billing:
      1. Go to the main contact page: Contact us.
      2. Enter a short description like “billing – double charge” or “billing – wrong account”.
      3. When the Contact support button appears, select it.
      4. Choose the Microsoft 365/Office product and a billing-related category (for example, “Billing and payment updates” / “Manage my subscription”) to surface chat/call options.

If the subscription truly belongs to an account that no longer exists or that cannot be accessed, explain this clearly to the support agent and provide:

    • The email address of the deleted account (if known).
    • The last four digits of the card and transaction details from the bank statement.

The agent can then investigate the charge and advise on cancellation and possible refund eligibility. For refund rules on Microsoft 365 subscriptions, see the guidance under How to get a refund on a Microsoft subscription.
