I do not have audio any longer on my laptop with Windows 11.

It worked yesterday in a TEAMs meeting 6/17/2026.

Any help would be appreciated.

Best,

Hi @Wear, Casey@Parks,

Thank you for the detailed description.

Based on your description, I would like to narrow down whether this is a Teams-only issue or a Windows audio issue. If Windows is not detecting or routing the speaker correctly, Teams will also be affected.

To better understand what changed, please check the following:

  1. Do you have no sound only in Microsoft Teams, or also in other places such as Windows sounds, YouTube, or another app?
  2. Are you using the laptop’s built-in speaker, a Bluetooth headset or speaker, a USB headset, or a dock?
  3. In Teams, if you go to Settings > Devices, does your expected speaker appear there? If yes, does Make a test call play anything back?

  4. Did anything change after the last working meeting, such as a Windows update, reconnecting a headset, using a dock, or pairing Bluetooth again?

While checking the above, please try these steps to help resolve the issue:

  1. Check the sound output in Windows
Select the speaker icon on the taskbar, then confirm the correct output device is selected. If multiple devices appear, Windows may be sending audio to the wrong one and also check Volume mixer. Also make sure volume is not muted. User's image
  2. Reconnect the audio device
If you use Bluetooth or USB audio, disconnect and reconnect it. If possible, connect it directly to the laptop instead of through a dock or hub. For Bluetooth devices, make sure they are charged and not also connected to another device.
  3. Turn off Audio enhancements in Windows 11
Go to Settings > System > Sound, select your active output device, then set Audio enhancements to Off. This setting can sometimes reduce or block incoming audio.
  4. If still no sound, check the audio driver
If the issue continues, try updating the audio driver, or if the problem started after an update, roll back the driver from Device Manager. Kindly refer step 9 in the article Fix sound or audio problems in Windows - Microsoft Support

If you reply with the answers to the questions above, it should be possible to narrow down fairly quickly whether this is a Teams device-selection issue or a laptop audio issue. Looking forward to your response.

Yes I have a headset and the problem was only TEAMS or any video call. I unplugged the headset, plugged it back in, turned the volume up, and it is working now.

    Thank you.

Use the following Windows 11 audio troubleshooting steps to restore sound on the laptop. These steps address system-wide audio issues, so they will also affect Microsoft Teams.

    1. Confirm the correct output device is selected
      1. Select the Speakers icon on the taskbar.
      2. Select the arrow to the right of the volume slider (tooltip: Select a sound output).
      3. Choose the correct device (built‑in laptop speakers or the device actually in use, not a disconnected monitor, HDMI, or Bluetooth device).
    2. Check that sound is not muted or disabled
      1. Right-click the Speakers icon on the taskbar.
      2. Select the arrow to the right of the volume slider to open the list of audio devices.
      3. Select the settings icon to open Volume mixer.
      4. Ensure none of the device or app sliders show an "x" (muted). If they do, either raise the slider or select Unmute speakers.
      5. Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
      6. Under Advanced, select More sound settings.
      7. On the Playback tab, select the laptop speakers (or desired device), choose Properties, and under Device usage ensure Use this device (enable) is selected.
    3. Set the correct default audio device
      1. Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
      2. In Output, select the device that should play sound (built‑in speakers or the device actually connected). Selecting it sets it as the default.
      3. If an external monitor without speakers is selected as default, switch back to the laptop speakers.
    4. Check for pending updates and restart to apply them
      1. Go to Start > Settings > Windows Update and select Check for updates.
      2. Install any available updates and restart the PC.
      3. Also check Start > Power for Update and restart / Update and shut down and choose one of these if shown.
    5. Update or reinstall audio drivers
      1. Open Device Manager (type device manager in the taskbar search and select it).
      2. Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
      3. Right-click the laptop’s audio device (for example, Realtek or similar) and select Update driver > Search automatically for drivers and complete the wizard.
      4. If no newer driver is found or sound still does not work:
        • Right-click the same device and select Uninstall device.
        • Check Attempt to remove the driver for this device, then select Uninstall.
        • Restart the PC so Windows reinstalls the audio driver automatically.
    6. Try the generic Windows audio driver (if needed)
      1. In Device Manager, expand Sound, video and game controllers.
      2. Right-click the audio device and select Update driver.
      3. Choose Browse my computer for drivers > Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
      4. Select High Definition Audio Device, then Next, and follow the prompts.
    7. Verify microphone privacy settings if Teams audio input is also affected
      1. Go to Start > Settings > Privacy & security.
      2. Under App permissions, select Microphone.
      3. Turn Microphone access and Let apps access your microphone to On.
      4. For Microsoft Teams, ensure its toggle is also On under Let apps access your microphone.

If audio returns at the Windows level (for example, system sounds or media playback) but Teams still has issues, use Teams’ device settings to select the same working speaker and microphone.
