Changing the SharePoint domain name is not supported for GCCH or other special/government clouds.

The SharePoint domain rename feature explicitly excludes tenants that use special or government clouds such as GCC, GCC High, and DoD. For such environments, there is no supported way to change the *.sharepoint.com domain to a new name, even in rebranding scenarios.

    Hi @Dean Worster

Thank you for reaching out regarding your SharePoint architecture goals.

Regarding your inquiry into modifying the primary SharePoint URL within the GCC High environment, changing the SharePoint tenant domain name in the URL is not currently supported. Microsoft’s SharePoint domain rename feature does not apply to government clouds, including GCC, GCC High, and DoD.

    User's image

As a result, a direct, supported path to modify the main SharePoint URL from oldname to newname cannot be accommodated in GCC High at this time.

In case your business need is mainly to reflect the company rebrand, you can still update the site title, logo, header, and overall look and feel of SharePoint sites (not the domain name). For more details, please refer to Customize your SharePoint site | Microsoft Support

I hope this helps clarify the situation. Should you have any further questions, please feel free to reach out.
