SharePoint Sharing link permission to specific people

Just wondering if we turn on these settings on a site and org level separately, Do we know what happens to existing shares/access if we mandate the "People you choose option"?

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A Forum.

Based on my testing, if a file was originally shared using the "People you choose" option, changing the default sharing link type setting to "Only people in your organization" did not affect the existing sharing link. The link continued to work as before, and only the users who were originally specified could access the file.

Thanks for your answer, but let's say if the link were shared as "With anyone inside and outside" and then changed to " people you specify" will it also won't impact the previous shared links?

Thank you for the clarification.

Just to make sure I understand your scenario correctly, are you referring to the following case?

• The organization and site sharing settings both allow Anyone links.

• A file is shared using an "Anyone" sharing link.

• The default sharing link type is later changed from "Anyone with the link" to "Specific people".

If so, based on my testing, changing only the default sharing link type did not affect the existing "Anyone" sharing link. The link continued to work as before.
