I need to cancel recurring charges to and old Discover card for an xbox account I didn't subscribe to.

I have a recurring charge that comes from an old Discover card. I can not cancel this subscription online because the old card does not have an expiration date or security code. I talked to Lance online and was dropped when he tried to transfer me to someone who could help. My current charge is $22.99. I did not initiate this subscription--I assume one of my children did. They have been out of the house for 12+ years. When I first started getting this charge it was around $15. I have tried for years to eliminate this charge--Discover can't cancel it and Microsoft has made it near impossible without the Xbox account number. Please help--I am getting very frustrated.

The card number being charged is 6011 4994 3337 4848, this card was canceled (there is no expiration or security code)

Canceling the recurring Xbox charge and stopping future misuse requires both Microsoft and the card issuer.

    1. Investigate and identify the charge
    • Go to the Manage your payments page of the Microsoft account dashboard and select Investigate next to the unrecognized charge. This helps identify whether it is a Microsoft subscription with recurring billing enabled and which subscription it is.
    • Review the most likely causes listed in the billing investigation article (for example, recurring subscription, family member purchase, or in-app purchase) and confirm which applies.
    1. Cancel the Xbox/Microsoft subscription (if it is on a Microsoft account that can be accessed)
    • Sign in at Subscriptions with any Microsoft account that might be associated with the card.
    • If an Xbox Game Pass or other subscription appears:
      1. Select Manage.
      2. If the page shows Cancel or Upgrade or Cancel, select it.
      3. Follow the on-screen steps to cancel and turn off recurring billing.
    • If the subscription was purchased through a third party (for example, Google Play, Apple App Store, or a retailer), cancellation must be done through that third party’s support as described in the cancellation article.
    1. If the subscription cannot be found or canceled online
    • Use the guided support for subscription cancellation if the self-service steps do not work. The “Unable to cancel your Microsoft subscription” article provides a Start link to guided support that can help locate and cancel subscriptions when the usual Manage/Cancel options are not visible.
    • If the charge is tied to an unknown Xbox/Microsoft account and cannot be managed from any known account, contact Microsoft billing support (via the official “Contact – Microsoft Support” path described in the Q&A references) and provide:
      • The last 4 digits of the card
      • Charge dates and amounts (for example, recurring $22.99)
      • Any transaction IDs from the bank/Discover statements so support can locate and cancel the subscription associated with that card.
    1. Work with the card issuer to protect the card
    • Even though the card is canceled, coordinate with Discover to:
      • Confirm the card is fully blocked from future Microsoft/Xbox charges.
      • Dispute unauthorized charges and request chargebacks for those not authorized.
    • The billing investigation article explicitly notes that unrecognized charges may be due to recurring subscriptions or family member purchases; the bank can still treat them as unauthorized if they were not consented to.
    1. Request refunds where eligible
    • After the subscription is canceled, review Microsoft’s refund guidance for subscriptions. The support article on “How to get a refund on a Microsoft subscription” (linked from the Q&A context) explains how to request a refund and outlines eligibility.
    • Some regions allow prorated refunds depending on subscription length and country; the cancellation article lists countries with prorated refunds.
    1. Prevent future issues
    • Remove any stored payment methods that should no longer be used by signing in to the Microsoft account and removing them from Payment options.
    • If any Microsoft account is involved, harden security (change password, enable two-step verification, and review security info) to prevent further unauthorized purchases.
