WHY AM I PAYING FOR 365 IF I ONLY USE WORD

Microsoft 365 subscriptions are bundles that include multiple apps and services together (for example, premium Word, Excel, PowerPoint, 1 TB of OneDrive storage, security features, and access to support). The subscription cost covers the whole bundle, even if only one app such as Word is used.

For home users, Microsoft 365 subscriptions like Microsoft 365 Family, Personal, Premium, or Basic are all “home” products and are billed as subscriptions rather than as separate payments per app. Non‑subscription (one‑time purchase) versions of Office such as Office Home & Student or stand‑alone Word are separate products with different pricing and terms.

If a subscription is not needed and only a one‑time purchase of Word/Office is preferred, it is possible to:

1. Turn off recurring billing for the current Microsoft 365 subscription so it does not renew:
   • Sign in to the Subscriptions page with the Microsoft account used for the subscription.
   • Select Turn off recurring billing.
2. After the subscription expires, buy a one‑time purchase version of Office (for example, Office Home & Student) or a stand‑alone app if available, then switch the license in Word/Office to that one‑time purchase.

Regarding phone support, for home products (Microsoft 365 Family, Personal, Premium, Basic, and one‑time Office purchases), access to support is primarily via online Get help, chat, or call‑back options rather than a direct public phone number list. Home users can:

• Use the Get help experience described under Customer service phone numbers to request support and, where available, choose a call‑back option.
• For Microsoft 365 Family or Personal, use the contact support options referenced in the subscription help articles.

Microsoft 365 subscription benefits also include the ability to contact support via chat or phone at no extra cost during the subscription term, which is part of what the subscription fee covers.
