I have been logged out of my Authenticator app and when I try to log in, the code says it did not work for everything. On my computer I’m not allowed in, on my phone I’m not allowed in. I need to be able to get into my school portal. I am also never prompted you verify with a number or email.

    Hi @Desiree J. Modarelli

Since you were logged out of the Authenticator app, that’s most likely the reason for the issue you’re experiencing. Your account is still set up to use Microsoft Authenticator as the required verification method. When you attempt to sign in, the system expects either an approval or a code from the app. Because the app is no longer signed in or properly linked to your account, it cannot provide the necessary verification.

As this is a work or school account managed by your school’s IT department, forum moderators don’t have the administrative permissions to change these settings directly.

To regain access quickly, the best step is to contact your school’s IT Support or Help Desk. They are the only ones who can reset your multifactor authentication (MFA) settings or help you configure a new verification method. You can refer them to this guide: Manage authentication methods for Microsoft Entra multifactor authentication - Microsoft Entra ID |…

If you’re unsure who your IT administrator is, see How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support

Once your school IT team helps you regain access, you can manage your security verification methods by visiting My Sign-Ins | Security Info | Microsoft.com page. This allows you to control which methods you use for MFA in the future.

Since both phone and computer sign-ins are blocked and there is no prompt to verify by another method (number or email), the only available options are:

    1. Try another verification method
    • On the sign-in screen, select I don't have a code, I can't use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now, or Try another verification method (wording may vary).
    • If any other method (SMS, email, backup phone, security key, or Outlook mobile sign-in) is listed, choose it and complete verification.
    1. Use Outlook mobile or Authenticator if already configured
    • If Outlook mobile notifications were previously enabled for your work/school account, open Outlook on your phone and approve the sign-in request or use a one-time code from Settings → Accounts → Sign-in requests.
    • If Authenticator is still listed as a method but not working, on the sign-in page choose Other ways to sign in and try Approve a request on my Microsoft Authenticator app again, ensuring the app is installed and opened.
    1. If multiple failed attempts have occurred
    • Microsoft Entra multifactor authentication may temporarily block further attempts after repeated failures.
    • Wait before trying again and avoid repeated sign-in attempts, or use a different MFA method if any is available.
    1. If no alternative method works
    • For a school (work/school) account, contact the school’s IT help desk or administrator and ask them to clear/reset MFA settings for the account.
    • After the admin clears the settings, the next sign-in will prompt to re-register two-factor verification (including Authenticator) so access to the school portal can be restored.

Support agents and documentation cannot bypass verification or send codes directly; only the organization’s help desk/admin can reset MFA for a school account.
