Autonumbering was disabled while I was typing, by accident. How do I turn it on with the new Outlook?

Hi Cassie Nelson,

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand how inconvenient it can be when automatic numbering gets turned off while you are typing.

If the Auto format options button is not visible in your new Outlook window, please make sure you are editing inside the message body first, since some formatting options only appear while composing an email.- Open a new email or reply window.

  • On the ribbon, select Auto format options.
  • Choose the automatic formatting options you want to use, then select OK.

If you only need to add numbering manually in the current message, you can also select the text, then go to the Message tab and choose Numbering in the Basic Text section.

If the Auto format options button is not visible in your new Outlook window, please make sure you are editing inside the message body first, since some formatting options only appear while composing an email.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further updates, thanks.
