My Surface 5 tablet just shows me the Windows logo (no spinning graphic at the bottom) when I power it on. It turns off shortly after. I can't get to the UEFI or other screens with the volume up or down. It has been plugged in during these test.

Any ideas on what I can try next?

Force it fully off: Hold the power button for 20-30 seconds (even if the screen already looks black) until you're sure it's completely off, not just sleeping or hung.

Wait 10 seconds, then do the UEFI key combo from a cold start:

    Press and hold Volume Up

While holding it, press and release Power

Keep holding Volume Up for 10-15 seconds until the Surface logo appears, then let go.

If the above suggestions fail, then download: Surface Recovery Image Download and Reset or Recover.

    Try these steps in order.

    1. Disconnect accessories and charge
      • Disconnect all accessories: USB drives, SD cards, external monitors, Type Cover, docks, and any other devices.
      • Connect the original Surface power supply.
      • Charge for at least 15 minutes, then press the power button once to turn it on.
    2. Force a shutdown and restart
      • Press and hold the power button for about 20 seconds, keep holding until the device turns off and the Windows logo appears again, then release the power button.
      • If Windows still does not start and it powers off again, repeat once more.
    3. Try waking it with the keyboard shortcut
      • If using a Type Cover or external keyboard, press Windows logo key + Ctrl + Shift + B to try to wake the display in case it is stuck.
    4. Try booting from a USB recovery drive
      • On another PC, create a Surface USB recovery drive as described in Creating and using a USB recovery drive for Surface.
      • Shut down the Surface.
      • Insert the USB recovery drive into the Surface.
      • Press and hold the volume-down button, then press and release the power button.
      • When the Surface logo appears, release the volume-down button and follow on-screen instructions to see if it will boot or allow a reset.
    5. If still stuck on the logo or not entering UEFI/USB boot
      • If the device cannot reach UEFI or boot from USB and remains stuck on the logo or powers off, service is likely required.
      • Use the service options to send the device to Microsoft, visit an in-person service center, or use self-repair options if applicable.
