I had an azure sponsored subscription (for startups) which ended one month ago - it was automatically transfered to pay-as-you-go.

I should get an invoice/get charged like 2 days ago - which did not happened.

First the subscription was on my gmail account but we transfered it to my company account.

When i check on my company account billings i do have in subscriptions information about my M365 accounts etc. but the mentioned above subscription is not listed there.

When im logged in with my gmail account on ther subscription i have that this account is Account Administrator but when i click on Transfer billing ownership im getting a error. When trying to add a payment method as this account in Payment methods im getting "You need to be the Account administrator for the subscription to view this page. If you believe you’re the Account administrator for this subscription, try switching directory"

When i switch to the company account i added a card for payments but even after few hours the tab with payment methods is just "Loading..."

The symptoms indicate a mix of billing-account/role issues and a stuck billing profile, which can’t be fixed from the portal alone.

Key points from the scenario and context:

    1. Only the billing account owner/administrator can transfer billing ownership of a subscription or manage its payment methods. For MOSP/pay‑as‑you‑go subscriptions, the account administrator is the only one who can transfer ownership.
    2. When a subscription’s billing owner leaves or the billing identity changes (for example, sponsorship ending, subscription moved between accounts/tenants), the subscription can become effectively “orphaned” from a billing perspective. In that case, billing operations (including viewing/adding payment methods) stop working until a new billing owner is assigned.
    3. If the original billing owner is no longer valid, Azure sends email and shows a banner in the subscription details to other billing owners/subscription owners with a link to accept billing ownership.
    4. When the billing section or payment methods blade is greyed out or stuck on “Loading…”, it usually means either:
      • The signed‑in identity doesn’t have the required billing role on that billing account, or
      • The subscription type/payment method is managed in a different billing system and must be corrected by support.

Given the current state (error on Transfer billing ownership, payment methods not loading, and the subscription not appearing under the company billing account), self‑service options are effectively blocked.

    Actionable steps:

    1. Confirm the correct account and directory
      • Sign in to the Azure portal with the Gmail account.
      • Go to Subscriptions and open the affected subscription.
      • Check the banner or any link offered to “accept billing ownership” or similar; if present, follow it from an account that should own billing.
    2. Verify billing roles on the company billing account
      • In the company account, go to Cost Management + Billing.
      • Confirm that the account has an owner/contributor role on the relevant billing account/billing profile. If not, a current billing owner must grant that access.
    3. If the subscription still does not appear under the company billing account, or payment methods remain stuck on “Loading…”, open support tickets:
      • A billing support request to:
        • Re‑associate the pay‑as‑you‑go subscription with the correct billing account (company account), and
        • Fix the payment method issue on the billing profile.
      • If there are any technical side effects (for example, capacity or resources not stopping correctly), open a technical support request as well.

These actions align with how similar cases are resolved: when a sponsorship or startup subscription transitions and is moved between accounts/tenants, only Microsoft billing support can re‑link the subscription and correct the billing profile so that transfer and payment methods work again.
