Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
To identify which Microsoft account is associated with the Microsoft 365 charge and review billing details, follow these steps:
- Investigate the charge from Microsoft
- Go to the Manage your payments page from the Microsoft account dashboard using this link from the context: Manage your payments.
- Use the guidance in How to investigate a billing charge from Microsoft to match the amount, date, and descriptor on the bank/card statement with a Microsoft order or subscription.
- Check which Microsoft account was used
- If there might be multiple email addresses, sign in to each possible Microsoft account at the account dashboard and check:
- Services & subscriptions / Order history for an active Microsoft 365 subscription or matching charge.
- If the username (email) is forgotten, use the steps in Check products or services where you used your Microsoft account:
- On Windows 10/11: Start > Settings > Accounts > Email & app accounts to see usernames associated with the device.
- In Office apps (Word/Excel) on any device: File > Account and look under Belongs to to see the Microsoft account tied to the subscription.
- Check all email inboxes for receipts from Microsoft for Microsoft 365, digital purchases, or subscriptions.
- If there might be multiple email addresses, sign in to each possible Microsoft account at the account dashboard and check:
- View order history and billing details
- Once signed in with the correct Microsoft account, go to the order history page: account.microsoft.com/billing/orders.
- Select Payment & billing > Order history, refine by date range, and look for charges with status Completed or Redeemed that match the bank/card charge.
- Select Order details on a matching order to review full billing details and, if needed, print an invoice.
- If the charge is unrecognized or from a different/unknown account
- Use the investigation steps in How to investigate a billing charge from Microsoft to confirm whether the charge is tied to any of the accounts that can be accessed.
- If the subscription is found and is not needed, cancel it and then check refund eligibility using How to get a refund on a Microsoft subscription. Note that not all cancellations result in a refund, and eligibility is checked after cancellation.
- If the account still cannot be identified
- Use the Sign-in Helper tool referenced in I can't sign in to my Microsoft account if there are general sign-in issues.
- If no matching account or order can be found for the charge after following the investigation steps, contact the bank or card issuer to discuss the transaction as potentially fraudulent and follow their dispute process.
