Family Safety Organiser account hacked and not recoverable. Unable to access or manage my family group.

Because Microsoft treats child accounts with strict data privacy protocols, a child profile cannot legally leave a Family Group on its own; it requires the digital permission of the explicit Organiser account. Since your original account is unrecoverable, the system has essentially orphaned the group container, meaning Microsoft Support cannot manually delete the group or forcefully unlink the children from the backend.

To bypass this roadblock and get your family set up under a fresh, secure group, you have two primary options. First, if there is any other adult account currently listed as a member in that same group (such as a spouse or partner), have them log into family.microsoft.com to see if they have co-organiser permissions, which would allow them to manually remove the children. Alternatively, you can use a parental consent loophole: create a brand-new adult Microsoft account, start a new family group, and invite your children's emails. When the system blocks the invite because they are trapped in the old group, it should trigger a "Parental Consent Required" prompt; following this prompt to verify your adulthood (usually via a minor credit card authorization charge) will allow your new account to forcefully assume parental management over their profiles and pull them out of the old container.

Thank you for the suggestion, but sadly, this doesn’t work. When we try to join the new family group via invitation, there is no “Parental consent required prompt”, instead there’s just a webpage with the following:

You're already in a family group You'll need to leave your current family group to join a new one. To leave a group, select Go to family group, find your name, and then select: and Leave family group.

I also tried signing into the child account on my family safety app (on my phone) to accept the invite but this seems to just silently fail, it loads a blank page and then does nothing.

It looks like the only way to resolve this is to buy new copies of Windows and Minecraft for each family member, and set up new accounts for everyone, which absolutely sucks.

I really don’t understand how Microsoft are unable to either delete the family group, or delete the organiser account to dissolve the group.

The reason the invite loophole failed is because Microsoft still sees the child profile as legally bound to that original "ghost" group, and the silent crash on your phone's app is likely just a bad session caching error. Before you spend a single cent buying brand-new Windows or Minecraft licenses, try logging directly into the child’s Microsoft account via a desktop browser and changing their birth year so they are registered as an adult over 18. If the system lets you save that change, it should temporarily strip away the parental lock, allowing the account to navigate to the family portal and manually select "Leave family group." Once they are out, you can safely revert their birthday back to normal and invite them to your new group. If that birthdate edit is totally greyed out or locked, your best bet is to bypass standard support entirely and file a request with the Microsoft Privacy Compliance team under the pretense of managing a minor's data privacy; they are one of the few backend teams with the actual authority to manually sever an orphaned account link.
