It keeps saying that it does not recognize the email address associated with my account. So I have not been able to access my account on my desktop or laptop. The authenticator app is not showing any of the codes or passwords. I keep getting locked out of my account!!! It has been frustrating! This is terrible customer service and a terrible way to treat people when they FORCED to buy subscriptions!!

Follow these steps to regain access and address the “email not recognized” and missing Authenticator codes:

    1. Confirm the correct account and alias
    • Make sure the exact email address is correct, including spelling and domain (for example, .com vs .co.uk, and similar names like rachel vs rachael).
    • If there are multiple aliases on the account, try signing in with another alias (email or phone) that might be associated with the subscription.
    • If the username still is not accepted, use the account recovery flow:
      • Go to Recover your account and enter the email, phone, or Skype name used to sign in.
      • Follow the steps to receive a security code and set a new password if prompted.
    1. Check for verification/security issues blocking codes If verification codes are not arriving or the account is being locked frequently:
    • Avoid repeated or excessive code requests; this can cause temporary blocking of verification messages.
    • Check junk/spam folders for messages from @accountprotection.microsoft.com.
    • If SMS is used, ensure the phone number is a mobile number (not VOIP), the inbox is not full, and the device does not block texts from unknown numbers.
    • If the account has been flagged for unusual activity or locked, verification messages may be delayed or blocked until the security issue clears.
    1. Verify and update security info (if sign-in is possible at all) If sign-in can be completed on any device:
    • Go to the Security basics or Security info page for the account.
    • Select Update info.
    • Confirm that the phone number and email used for verification are correct.
    • If a method no longer works, choose I don’t have any of these (or similar) to replace the security info with a working phone or email.
    1. When Authenticator is not showing codes If Microsoft Authenticator no longer shows the account or codes (for example, after a phone change) and there is no alternative method configured:
    • For work or school accounts, an organization admin must reset MFA settings in Microsoft Entra so that sign-in can be re-registered on the app.
    • For personal Microsoft accounts, use the account recovery process and alternative verification methods (email/SMS) to regain access, then re-add the account to Authenticator.
    1. If sign-in is still not possible
    • Use the sign-in helper to diagnose sign-in problems.
    • If still locked out, contact Microsoft Support and request help with account sign-in and verification issues. Support cannot send codes or directly change account details but can guide through supported recovery options.

Because support agents cannot override security protections or send verification codes directly, recovery must go through the documented self-service and identity-verification flows.
