To verify and trace the refund, follow these steps using the existing Microsoft tools and then escalate to support with the reference number from both Microsoft and PayPal:

  1. Check Microsoft order/refund status
    • Go to the Xbox/Microsoft order history page and sign in with the same Microsoft account used for the subscription.
    • Locate the relevant order; the entry will show whether a refund has been issued.
    • If the order shows the refund as issued, this confirms that Microsoft has sent the refund to the original payment method (PayPal).
  2. Allow processing time
    • Refunds are generally processed within a few business days and are applied to the original payment option. If the status shows “refund issued,” but nothing appears in PayPal, wait a few days as the payment provider may still be processing it.
  3. If the refund is marked as issued but not visible in PayPal
    • Contact Microsoft Support with:
      • The Microsoft order number.
      • The refund reference number that matches between Microsoft and PayPal.
    • Use the Microsoft billing support path (for Microsoft 365 and Office, “Billing and payment updates”) so an agent can:
      • Confirm the refund date and status.
      • Confirm the exact PayPal account/payment method the refund was sent to.
  4. If Microsoft cannot see the refund or it is not marked as issued
    • Use the Microsoft subscription refund flow to ensure the refund request is properly submitted: see How to get a refund on a Microsoft subscription.
    • If needed, contact Microsoft Support again and provide the reference number and screenshots from PayPal showing no incoming refund.
  5. If Microsoft confirms the refund and provides details, but PayPal still does not show it
    • Share Microsoft’s confirmation (date, amount, transaction/reference ID) with PayPal support so they can trace the incoming transaction on their side.

These steps give Microsoft enough information to prove whether the refund was completed to PayPal and help PayPal locate the funds.

Hello, good day and thanks for your question. My apologies and I understand that you are checking for the completion of the refund request that you made with Microsoft.

May I know on when have you exactly initiated or requested for a refund?

I will follow the process. But this is alot of time wasting to have to read and follow this long winded procedure.Micosoft obtained money from my account immediately but has taken in excess of 3 weeks to refund me.

    Very frustrated in 2026
