Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
To get a refund after canceling a Microsoft 365 or other Microsoft subscription, the next steps depend on how and where the subscription was purchased and the country of purchase.
- Confirm how the subscription was purchased
- If it was purchased directly from Microsoft (Microsoft account / Microsoft Store), continue with the steps below.
- If it was purchased through Google Play or Apple App Store, request the refund from them instead:
- Google Play: see Learn about Google Play refund policies.
- Apple App Store: request a refund from Apple support.
- Check refund eligibility for Microsoft 365
- For Microsoft 365 Basic, Personal, Family, or Premium bought from Microsoft, cancellation is required before refund eligibility is evaluated.
- Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365 and sign in with the same Microsoft account that purchased the subscription.
- Find the subscription and select Manage.
- If you have already canceled, the page will show the current status and whether recurring billing is off.
- Refunds are not guaranteed; eligibility depends on Microsoft’s cancellation policy and, in some countries, local prorated-refund rules.
- Check refund eligibility for Copilot Pro or other Microsoft subscriptions
- Copilot Pro:
- Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services and sign in with the purchasing Microsoft account.
- Find the Copilot Pro subscription and select Manage.
- If canceled within the specified refund window, a refund is issued; after that window, only recurring billing can be turned off.
- Other subscriptions (Clipchamp, extra OneDrive storage, etc.):
- Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services.
- Find the subscription and select Manage > Cancel (or Upgrade or Cancel).
- Follow the prompts; any refund is applied according to the Microsoft Store Terms of Sale and local rules.
- Copilot Pro:
- Prorated refunds in specific countries
- If the subscription was purchased from the Microsoft Store in one of these countries, a prorated refund may apply when canceling:
- All subscription lengths: Canada, Denmark, France, Israel, Korea, Turkey.
- Subscriptions longer than 1 month that have renewed: Finland, Germany (purchases after March 1, 2022), Netherlands, Poland, Portugal.
- To cancel and receive a prorated refund (if eligible), go to Services & subscriptions (https://account.microsoft.com/services), select Manage > Cancel subscription, and follow the prompts.
- If the subscription was purchased from the Microsoft Store in one of these countries, a prorated refund may apply when canceling:
- If the charge is unrecognized or there are multiple/duplicate charges
- Use the Manage your payments / billing investigation guidance to identify the charge.
- After identifying the subscription, cancel it and then follow the refund guidance above.
- If still unresolved, contact Microsoft Support via the Contact Microsoft Support or Contact – Microsoft Support flows in the references to have an agent review billing and refund options.
- If payment is past due
- If the subscription payment is past-due, it can still be canceled immediately from Services. After cancellation, no further charges are made, and the past-due amount is not collected.
For any case where the online flow does not clearly show a refund or where there are disputes (e.g., double charges), contact Microsoft Support directly and provide the account and transaction details so they can check refund eligibility and process it if applicable.
