Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Switching from Microsoft 365 Family to Microsoft 365 Personal is done by changing the subscription on the Microsoft account; activation cannot be performed on behalf of the subscriber.
To switch immediately from Family to Personal and restore full app functionality:
- Go to the Microsoft account services page and sign in with the same Microsoft account currently used for the Family subscription.
- Select the existing Microsoft 365 Family subscription and choose the option to switch to a different Microsoft 365 subscription.
- Purchase Microsoft 365 Personal using the same Microsoft account.
- The remaining days on the current Family subscription will automatically convert and be added to the new Personal subscription; the switch takes effect right away, even if the original expiry date is June 6.
- After switching, close all Office apps on the Mac and reopen them, signing in with the same Microsoft account to pick up the new Personal license.
When switching from Family to Personal:
- The subscription can still be used on all devices, but only by the account owner (no sharing).
- Remaining subscription time is extended on the new plan; unused time is not lost.
- OneDrive storage per user stays the same, but only the Personal owner keeps the storage.
- Desktop apps do not need to be reinstalled when switching between Family and Personal.
If the subscription was purchased through a third-party store (such as Apple App Store), subscription management and switching options may be limited and must be done through that billing partner instead of directly in the Microsoft account.
