Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
The account is most likely blocked from further payments because there is a past-due or declined charge that the bank or card issuer is not allowing, or because the account itself may be locked.
Take these steps in order:
- Verify the subscription status
- Close all Office apps.
- Go to the Services & subscriptions page: https://account.microsoft.com/services
- Sign in with the same Microsoft account used for Microsoft 365.
- Check under the Microsoft 365 heading whether the subscription is Active, Expired, or Past due.
- If it shows Past due or Expired, follow the on-screen steps there to pay the outstanding balance or renew.
- Check payment method and past-due balance
- Go to the Payment options page: https://account.microsoft.com/billing/payments
- Sign in with the same account.
- If the payment method shows an error or a declined status, update the card details (number, expiry date, name, billing address) so they exactly match the bank statement.
- Confirm there are sufficient funds and that the card supports recurring/online payments.
- If there is an outstanding balance, pay it from the Services & subscriptions page; a previously declined card can cause the subscription to be suspended until the balance is cleared.
- If the card keeps being declined
- Contact the bank or card issuer and ask why Microsoft charges are being blocked or declined (for example, international transactions disabled, credit limit reached, or recurring payments blocked).
- If necessary, use a different card or payment method and add it on the Services & subscriptions page, then move the subscription to that method.
- If the Microsoft account itself is locked
- If sign-in does not show a Next button or indicates the account is locked, follow the aka.ms link shown on the sign-in page to submit the account reinstatement form.
- Wait for the Microsoft Online Safety support agent to review and respond by email; do not submit multiple forms.
- If access is still blocked after these steps
- Use the guided support or contact Microsoft Support for billing help, as billing adjustments and account unlocks require secure tools that self-service pages and community forums do not provide.
